Video Tutorial: Using Action Hooks in Graphene (Advanced)

Wordpress GrapheneHere is my advanced tutorial regarding using action hooks in WordPress with the Graphene theme. This method allows you much more customization options over using the simple method. I’ve assumed you have a pretty good basic understanding of HTML and PHP.

The advantages of using action hooks:

  • You don’t have to edit core files.
  • Your changes will be permanent during a WordPress upgrade.

These two facts alone should be enough to convince you to learn action hooks. Don’t delay! The sooner you learn about this, the more time you will save yourself in the long run.

    Dear Josh,

Just finished working through the list of your video tutorials. What eye-openers! There’s a lot I have left to absorb, and so will be replaying these over time. But the logic of off-loading customizations to a child theme is wonderful. That’s something I had worried about — what happens at upgrade time?

So clearly I was right to worry, and you have provided the answer.

    Cordially,

    Gary
